Shattered Illusions

5/5 Stars

“The story is fantastic! It kept me on the edge of my seat, and because of that, I actually finished this title in one sitting. How did Cage get sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? Who is the real criminal? I love putting my detective hat on and trying to solve the crime before the end of the book, but I failed in this one thanks to Griffin’s exceptional story telling skills.”

After a ten year stint in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, a changed Cage Sinclair returns to his hometown. Hell-bent on clearing his name, trust is nonexistent–especially with the woman who had loved, and betrayed, him in the same breath. The woman who now lived in his deceased father’s house.

Morgan still yearns for the love of her life to return, even though her own fear helped railroad him into prison. She has kept her silence to protect her son. But now Cage is back.

Inconceivable danger lurks in the shadows, but behind closed doors embers ignite and old passions flame. Amidst betrayal, deceit and shattered illusions, will the truth tear them apart or bind them together forever?

Drama. Betrayal. Lust. Jealousy. Love.  No, this isn’t the English court during Henry VIII’s reign. This is Griffin’s extraordinary novella called Shattered Illusions. With less than 40 pages to it’s name, Shattered Illusions is the most intriguing romantic suspense title I have ever read! The drama, oh the drama, starts from chapter one, and takes us on a roller coaster ride through the rest of the book. Griffin’s pacing is perfection, as each chapter layers a tangled web of lies and betrayal between Cage Sinclair, Morgan, and Sheriff Blakely.

I absolutely drool at novels where there is a corrupt authority figure, and Sheriff Blakely takes the cake. He is unfair, mean, deceitful, and capable of more sinful behavior than any ne’er do well roaming the streets at night. He doesn’t mind causing problems for Cage, and Griffin slowly but surely reveals the evil Sheriff Blakely is truly capable of.

Cage Sinclair is definitely a salt-of-the-earth type of hero. Toughened by prison, but his heart still beats for his one true love. You can feel the tension between Cage and Morgan, but the love shared between them is undeniable. Griffin character development is phenomenal. Every word is carefully crafted and there isn’t a shred of fat in Shattered Illusions. This is a difficult task for any writer, but Griffin pulls it off without a hitch.

The story is fantastic! It kept me on the edge of my seat, and because of that, I actually finished this title in one sitting. How did Cage get sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? Who is the real criminal? I love putting my detective hat on and trying to solve the crime before the end of the book, but I failed in this one thanks to Griffin’s exceptional story telling skills.

Shattered Illusions is an amazing story, very well-written, and absolutely worth purchasing. With the price tag being so reasonable, you should definitely get your copy today!

COMMENT: Who is your favorite villain and which one of the 7 Deadly Sins does s/he possess? (1) Pride, (2) Envy, (3) Gluttony, (4) Lust, (5) Anger, (6) Greed, and (7) Sloth.

Note: I originally asked which one of the 7 Deadly Sins would you be. I admitted that I would be Pride or Lust. But after reading Maddy’s comment, I revised my question. Boy did I let the world know my flaws! I will now retreat and cover my eyes in shame!

Yikes! After watching “Seven” many years ago with Kevin Spacey and Brad Pitt, I don’t think I would want to be any of the deadly sins :o/ They are all pretty tragic in their own right. But I love putting on my detective hat too in books!

Zee, thank you so much for taking the time to read and review Shattered Illusions. I know one happy author who is smiling from ear-to-ear this morning. So glad you loved and hated my characters. That’s what every author strives for–to make them come alive on the page. 🙂

Just a reminder…one lucky commenter will receive a free download of Shattered Illusions!

Maddy, the storyline is dark, but it has tender moments and happiness too. I think you’ll be surprised by the ending, and all of my stories have happily ever afters. 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by.

    To Lisa,
Congratulations! This looks like a wonderful read.

To answer the question about the 7 sins..not sure which of the “7” I’d be…maybe a “devine mixture.” LOL

My favorite villain is Joker. I have no idea which of the 7 deadly sins he possesses, maybe pride (whenever I think of pride I think of DARCY!) 😀 I love a good mystery, I used to watch Scooby Doo all the time and never get the villain right, haha! The books sounds awesome, I will check it out next time I go book shopping.

I think I would pick either pride or lust myself as well. Sloth sounds kind of interesting.

Great review of Shattered Illusions. Sounds like my kind of book.

Great review! Sounds like the author managed to pack a major punch in a compact package! Sins? Me? Maybe lust…

Thanks to all of you for stopping by. 🙂 I’ve been thinking about the seven deadly sins myself, and don’t like any of the options. lol.
Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. Hmm….if I have to choose, I guess I’ll go with pride. Although I’m prideful of my accomplishment, I’m not too proud to admit when I’m wrong or to apologize.

    Hi Lisa and Zee,
I’m late but had to sop by and say, HI!!!
Fantastic review for a story that sounds like a “have to read.”
I enjoyed the excerpt and the cover looks great.
    Congrats Lisa!!!
I remember how you agonized over this story as you were writing it and it sure looks like you got it right. Keep writing!

Thanks for stopping by Rebecca. You always make my day. 🙂 Seems all I do is agonize over stories. 🙂 But the payoff is when a reader enjoys what I’ve written! Can’t get any better than that.
